It has a length of 85 km, its source is located in the northern foothills of the Central Volcanic mountain range, in the Botos lagoon of the Po\u00e1s volcano, to which it provides drainage, and pours its waters into the San Juan river, which flows into the sea Caribbean. Among its main tributaries are the Sucio River and the Toro River.<\/em><\/p><h1><em>The Sarapiqui River<\/em><\/h1><blockquote><h4><em>The name Sarapiqu\u00ed would be a translation into Spanish of the aboriginal name of the river given by the Botos: Yori River.<\/em><\/h4><\/blockquote><p><em>The area around the river is mostly lowlands tropical rainforest, having lush vegetation with a large variety of plant, animal and insect life.
